SKETCH ANALYSIS
project 2
27 / 11 / 2022
For the second project we're asked to sketch 5 different Malaysian’s historical buildings. In this project we supposed to sketch onsite, so we go to the site of the buildings and start to sketch immediately.
Reflection
This is by far one of my favorite modules in my entire 1st semester. Compared to the other modules, the architecture history has the least amount of onsite class and most of the assignments is sketching, so it’s enjoyable for me to do the assignments. Since the class is mostly recording, I have plenty of time to do another assignment.
On the first project we need to form a group, gladly our lecturer gives us a freedom to choose our own teammate. In this project we need to do a research and make a poster of the historical building that we’ve chosen, since it was a teamwork, we divided our part equally. Two people did the research, two people did the sketching and the rest did the poster. The objective of this assignment is to preserve the historical evidence of the valuable two historical buildings by recording, documenting, and analyzing them so we can still have some fragments of them if they were demolished or replaced by contemporary buildings. In this project I’ve learnt how to manage our teammate and how to divide the work equally. By the end of the project, I had discovered how to show a sequence of historical periods and how they are represented architecturally, using an appropriate visual and verbal architecture vocabulary, and eventually understand how many different variables contribute to the development of form.
The second project is quite fun, because this is a sketching project. In this project we can go to the site of the building and sketch there. Not only we can go to the site for sketching, we can also go there and visit the inside of the buildings. The goal of this project is to understand the influence of post-modernism to architectural design and construction, building science and technology, and urban design through analyzing of the post-Independence of Malaysia architecture and distinguish the way in which many diverse factors contribute to the development of Modern Malaysian architecture. in this project I have learnt that I can still having fun while working with our assignments. This project also thought me a lot of Malaysian’s historical buildings.
